For years and years I avoided fats and did 45 mins. of running or skating,
but it seemed that I would NEVER lose the excess weight I kept gaining. But THEN
I Lost 70 lb. of fat in one year!
I feel as though I eat like a king whenever I'm hungry
No need for calorie counting or strict portion control
Works with any (or no) exercise program
I don't need (for the weight loss) special herbs, pills, hard to get or unusually expensive foods.
WHY??
Why did it take me so many years to lose this weight?
Answer: Because what you need to eat is suprizingly different from what you'd expect and what is suggested by reasonable sounding and popular myths such as:
Myth #
- A calorie is a calorie
FACT: Some foods turn to fat quickly and then leave you hungry again while others satisfy much longer and also allow you to BURN fat. You may be amazed at which is which!
Myth #
- "Low fat" foods help you lose weight
FACT: The body treats fat in a special way, so this won't work. Then they load most "low fat" items with sugar to make it taste as good as if it had the fat, and you have the worst of both worlds.
Myth #
- "Exercise is the best way to lose weight
FACT: What you eat is much more important. I lost the 70 lbs. while doing LESS exercise!
Myth #
- "Eating is an addiction
FACT: SUGAR is addictive. And it doesn't stay in the bloodstream long, resulting in returning hunger. So you will NEED to eat more often if you eat the wrong foods.
Myth #
- "You must use discipline
FACT: Starving yourself is not healthy, and will result in yo-yo weight loss, so does not work long term.
Myth #
- Sugar is "natural"
FACT: Sugar cane and beets are natural. Crystaline sucrose (table sugar) occurs nowhere in nature, has a very high glycemic index, and is responsible for a long list of human health problems, including rotting teeth, gout, and diabetes.
Myth #
- High (white) starch is okay
FACT: Potatoes, rice, and most grains have very high glycemic indexes. This causes your blood sugar to rise quickly and a flood of insulin to convert it to fat.
Myth #
- Soy is good for you
FACT: Soy protein (as in "veggie burgers" and soy milk) and soy lecithin (in lots of things) have been shown to interfere with male harmones, which has numerous health consequences.
Other myths that can hurt you:
- Artificial sweeteners are better than sugar
FACT: Humans have evolved in contact with naturally occuring compounds, but not with compounds that don't occur in nature. Artificial compounds safety studies are too short and mostly financed by the marketer, and cannot be trusted. Look at sacharine and cyclamate. Do you want to be the guinie pig that proves sucralose and aspartame destroy health over long term?
- rBST (artificial growth hormone) in milk and its products is harmless
FACT: So says FDA. But many consider this unproven. rBST is banned in many countries. There are some very interesting facts about the FDA, and the influence Monsanto (the originator of rBST) may have on it, available further on.
- You can trust the FDA
FACT:
There is some food labeling that could lead you into eating something you want NONE of. For instance, instead of calling .49 gram per serving of trans fat "less than a gram" FDA allows it to be called "0 grams". So if the serving size is small enough, the label can clain "0 grams trans fat" for instance. Then if it takes 11 "servings" to satisfy you, you may have eaten 5.39 grams of trans fats. There have long been suspicions that the FDA does not always act in the public interest. Even former employee scientists have criticized it.
- Food manufacturers know what's best for you
FACT: Actually, I suspect that a lot of food manufacturers and retailers are trying to deliver healthy products, but are still believers in some of the above myths, and are NOT aware of the latest findings. But putting sugar in everything to take advantage of the public's sugar addiction is not in your best interest.
- GRAS products have been proven to be safe to eat
FACT: Generally Regarded As Safe by the FDA?? Do they consider Roundup as GRAS?? GRAS is a way for the FDA to give tacit approval for an item without requiring anyone to do expensive tests. Someone probably thinks they have a better use for all that money.
After being on an eating style or diet that accounted for the above facts for just 41 days I lost 28 lbs. This gave me a lot of confidence, and though the rate slowed down after the initial loss, I've never been disappointed.
When I heard my friends talk about giving up sugar (you don't really have to), I thought they were crazy. I mean how would I even sweeten tea or coffee? Besides, I had glorified concepts of sweet desserts, especially baked goods.
But I found that eating and satisfying myself with the right foods made sweets almost unappetizing (after overcoming my sugar addiction). I also found a non-sugar sweetener for tea or whatever, that is normally in our bloodstream.
